A motor rotates two wheels horizontally but in opposite directions and the gap between the wheels is adjustable by pulling the body on a slider. When we place an object, like a paper plane, a straw or a pencil along the groove, it gets stuck between the two rotating wheels. The frictional force between the object and the wheel surface is increased but the rubber tape and as a result, the object is also pushed ahead in an effort to stay in touch with the wheel surface. In this way, the wheels literally 'roll' over the object surface, and the speed of the rotation launches it away in the process. The principle is the same as that of the motion of a car with the main difference, thankfully, that the wheels are attached to the car and not to the road.)
