The glue that we use as a base is a polymer. A polymer is a molecule which consists of a long chain of identical parts. A bottle of glue then, is a collection of many individual molecules, which means, many individual chains, each chain containing a few billion individual, identical links. This is what gives polymers like glue some unique features - pulling out a part of the chain causes the whole chain to be pulled out. But it doesn't exactly behave like slime as yet. Just add a little sodium tetraborate, or borax, a binding agent that links different individual chains together, by a phenomenon known as cross linking. Now, if you try to pull out one chain, a bunch of other chains are also pulled out. This makes our slime.
Finally, iron filings are uniformly mixed in it and since iron is a ferromagnetic material - it strongly attracts magnets at room temperature. Therefore, when we introduce magnets to our magnetic slime, it attracts the embedded iron filings which in turn try to pull away. But the adhesive forces between the slime and the filings, and the cohesive forces within the slime itself pull back and cause the freaky behaviour of the magnetic slime.)
