The water vapor and oxygen gas spontaneously released in this reaction causes the smoke to erupt from the bottle, like the exit of a genie.
The tough stains at the end of the reaction are actually caused by manganese oxide. We use hydrogen peroxide diluted in acetic acid to remove those stains, since the manganese oxide breaks down into Mn2+ ions and oxygen in the presence of hydrogen peroxide in an acidic solution.
